INITIAL AFTERCARE
Wash your hands prior to touching your tattoo.
It is advised that the bandage be removed once home.
Gently wash the tattoo with mild anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Ensure the tattoo is thoroughly rinsed off during the initial clean to drain out soap and any potential irritants on the skin.
Air dry or dry skin with a clean towel. Do not reapply a new bandage.
The skin may secrete blood, ink, and plasma throughout the initial day of application. Wait to apply any aftercare once the skin has finished secreting fluids. This will likely be late evening the day of the appointment or the morning after.
Apply a thin layer of aquaphor or moisturizer that does not include scents or dyes. Start with a pea size amount, and add more in small increments if necessary. The moisturizer should absorb in the skin and not sit thickly on top of it. Repeat this process once in the morning and once in the evening, and throughout the day as needed.
It is advised to wash the area if the tattoo is exposed to dirt, heavy sweating, or any outside element that may cause the area to be exposed to bacteria.
If you start with aquaphor, continue to use for a few days or until the scabs have flaked off. Then switch over to a basic non
scented/non dyed moisturizer (ex: Cera Ve, Cetaphil. Lubriderm, ect.).
We do not recommend vaseline or products with high petroleum content to be used within the initial healing process, as they can trap bacteria under the moisturizer.
Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight and do not use tanning booths for a minimum of three weeks.
Do not go swimming or soak in a hot tub or spa until the tattoo is completely healed.
Your tattoo may form a scab several days after application. This scab will dry and often times flake off. This is a normal part of the healing process. Do not touch it or pick off the scabs, as it can damage the tattoo.
Signs and symptoms of infection include, but are not limited to, red streaks and marks that appear near the application site, green / yellow discharge and foul odor, elevated body temperature.
LONG TERM TATTOO CARE
Moisturize daily. This may include any basic daily moisturizer and vaseline.
Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight.
While outside, apply a high SPF sunblock to the tattooed area.
